چکیده

The improvements in excimer laser technology made hyperopic excimer refractive surgery a valuable option for hyperopia correction. However, despite the good visual and refractive outcomes of excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and laser in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) treatments, they are more effective and stable for the correction of low degrees of hyperopia than high hyperopia1-7. Refractive regression8,9 and significant increase in ocular and corneal aberrations10,11 have been reported. The Implantable Collamer Lens (Visian ICL; STAAR Surgical, Nidau, Switzerland) is a foldable phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) designed to be placed in the posterior chamber behind the iris with the haptic zone resting on the ciliary sulcus and has demonstrated to be safe and effective among various clinical settings12-16, including hyperopia correction17-20. Currently, toric

Posterior Chamber Toric Implantable Collamer Lenses – Literature Review

Posterior Chamber Phakic Toric Implantable Collamer Lenses have become increasingly used to correct refractive error associated with astigmatism. These devices are claimed to provide high efficacy in terms of refractive correction. This book chapter is an updated review on the safety and effectiveness and potential complications of the toric implantable collamer lens (Toric ICL) published in pe...

Combined posterior phakic intraocular lens and SMILE in a patient with high myopia.

Combined Posterior Phakic Intraocular Lens and SMILE in a Patient With High Myopia Bioptics is defined as a sequential method of treating large and complex refractive errors aiming to improve stability and predictability by the combination of refractive techniques with different mechanisms of action.1 The Visian Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL; STAAR Surgical, Monrovia, CA) is a foldable phakic ...

Posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens for hyperopia of +4 to +11 diopters.

PURPOSE To examine the efficacy, predictability, stability, and safety of posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in eyes with high hyperopia. METHODS We analyzed the results of 24 eyes that received a posterior chamber hydrogel-collagen plate phakic IOL (Staar Collamer Implantable Contact Lens, ICL) for the correction of hyperopia with the goal of emmetropia. Mean follow...

The adjustable refractive surgery concept (ARS)

The primary goal of refractive surgery is the smallest residual refractive error and preserved contrast sensitivity with the same visual capacity under bright and dim illumination. Corneal refractive surgery cannot correct very high ametopias; from -10 to -14 D is the limit of myopia correction in the cornea and from +4 to +6 D, the limit of hyperopia correction. Intraocular refractive surgery ...

JOURNAL OF MEDICAL CASE REPORTS Successful toric intraocular lens implantation in a patient with induced cataract and astigmatism after posterior chamber toric phakic intraocular lens implantation: a case report

Introduction: We report the case of a patient in whom simultaneous toric phakic intraocular lens removal and phacoemulsification with toric intraocular lens implantation were beneficial for reducing pre-existing astigmatism and acquiring good visual outcomes in eyes with implantable collamer lens-induced cataract and astigmatism. Case presentation: A 53-year-old woman had undergone toric implan...
